Basant Wires manufactures accessories for machinery made by Rieter, Truetzschler as well as LMW. Kishore Khaitan, MD, Basant Wires Pvt Ltd., spoke to Textile Excellence at India ITME 2016 on various subjects. Below is an excerpt.
Tell us about your products.
We manufacture accessories for the spinning machines made by Rieter, Truetzschler, Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) as well as Crosrol. We specialise in pins and pinned products. Pins are a substitute for metallic wire used in textile machinery. It has several advantages in preparation of fibre. Besides making a wide range of pins, we also make products for waste recycling. We manufacture pins with technical knowhow from Stewarts of the USA who have been pioneers in this area. Our products deliver best value for money though they may not be the cheapest available in the market. We also provide services for installation, process optimisation as well as after sales support, which is often more important that the products themselves.
What is your customer profile?
Most of our customers are from the medium and small enterprises (SME) sector. Many of them are also from the unorganised sector that needs to upgrade their technology and manufacturing facilities. That generates business for us.
What are the challenges being faced by the textile accessories manufacturing industry?
We lack a healthy ecosystem for innovation. Manufacturers and academic institutions have to work in close co-operation with government support in order to develop as well as promote indigenous research and development in the textile sector.
Is there anything which the government needs to do?
The government needs to support indigenous efforts through financial incentives. For example, there is a plan to develop an indigenous loom and the project is already going on. However, we need more such initiatives.
What is the kind of response you have received at ITME 2016?
We are very happy with the response we have received. We feel that compared to previous editions of this exhibition, this one have proved to be far better.
In which direction do you see the industry going? What are the trends?
India is uniquely positioned to take advantages of the opportunities emerging in the textile industry. With the right government support, the Indian textile industry can achieve all its objectives, especially if it becomes more market oriented and aggressive in exports. However, as on date, 70% of the machinery used by the Indian textile industry is imported. So, there is an opportunity to eliminate such imports and manufacture the machinery used by the Indian textile industry indigenously.
