India's Textile Machinery Exports All Set To Increase, Says TMMA

Textile machinery exports from India have risen steadily during the last five years and are expected to go up further especially since India is becoming a manufacturing hub of textile machinery, Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association President R Rajendran has said. He stated that almost all major global spinning machinery manufacturers have bases in India as well as China not only to cater to these two markets but also to other countries, while the home grown Indian textile engineering industry consists of more than 2,800 units.

Textile machinery exports increased from Rs 1,523 crore in FY12 to Rs 2,466 crore in FY15, according to S Chakraborty, an advisor of Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association. However, he clarified that though official data showed a drop in exports in 2015-2016, private data indicated exports worth Rs 2,572 crore in 2015-2016.

Rajendran said that presently there is scope to export machinery meant for spinning and processing adding that India also exports machinery for textile processing though the domestic textile industry imports a large number of looms as well as knitting and garmenting machinery.

Textile machinery imports were worth Rs 7,643 crore in 2011-2012 and Rs 10,305 crore in 2015-2016. This includes machinery, tools, as well as accessories besides weaving and garmenting machinery, including autoconers, he said. He said that the union government has been focusing on development of machinery for weaving and processing as well as supported loom development projects in public-private partnership mode, besides clearing a project to set up a common engineering facility centre.
