Morocco Pushes Ahead With Unique Supply Chain System To Boost Trade With EU

Over the years, fast fashion sourcing has become a trending trail in the Mediterranean country of Morocco. The country has sourced fast fashion items to European majors like Zara, H&M and Burberry. The proximity of this North-African country to the European markets no doubt played a major role in its boom. At present, Morocco is looking forward to expand its market base to newer horizons.

In the forthcoming fair, which will be held on October 26-27, 2017, at Marrakech in Morocco, the country will have on display its supply chain strategy.  In fact, Morocco attributes much of its success to this strategy.

Speaking of strategy in short, Morocco has divided its textile manufacturing facilities into six distinct areas of focus. The areas include fast fashion, denims, knitwear, premiums, sportswear and leisure wear. Moroccan brands span all the six areas and in addition they also manufacture leather and shoe items.  Each of these focus areas represent an ecosystem. Morocco has classified its supply chain such that the suppliers cut across the ecosystems they function in to give a boost to Moroccan textiles in the export segment.

According to Mohamed Tazi, General Director Moroccan Textile and Apparel Industry Association (AMITH), “Our focus areas are catered to by leading companies that act as catalysts for their respective branches and suppliers. These in turn ensure the country’s commitment to satisfy the requirements of modern production besides compliance with regulations and living up to international quality standards.”

Tazi further said, “Within the super structure posted by our country, the big players not only ensure that they meet their targets but also lend a helping hand to smaller players in meeting quality standards and international regulations.”

Every focus area or alternately ecosystem is designed to meet growth plans and targets annually. For instance the Denim sector is expected to create 14,800 new jobs by the year 2020. Currently, Morocco’s progress in the denim sector is growing at a steady rate.  Currently, Morocco is the seventh biggest exporter to the European markets.
