Amazon’s foray into the Indian fashion retail markets has yielded rich dividends for the U.S. e-commerce giant. In a recent media statement, the company said, there was a steep leap of 250% in sales coinciding with the third edition of the Wardrobe Refresh Sale.
Top management official from Amazon Fashion, Arun Sirdeshmukh, disclosed that it was the biggest ever sale for the company. The Amazon venture has given a big run for the money to competitors like Myntra and Jabong and it can now safely claim the top spot in retail fashion sales with claims of being the largest store when it comes to selection. The spokesperson said, “Amazon has grown over 90 per cent in terms of both volume and value in 2017.”
In his press statement, Sirdeshmukh further elaborated, “Tier II and Tier III cities reported faster growth, with markets such as Indore, Pune and Vadodra growing at 3 times to 4 times. The Amazon Fashion exclusive brands also showed strong growth. Our sports exclusive Under Armour grew 6 times, and GAP grew 8 times. Our wide reach covered 100 per cent serviceable pin codes in India, with Amazon Fashion witnessing 2 times growth in first-time shoppers.”
Amazon informed that since 2017, it’s making use of technology aided by deft backend processes in the United States. This has helped increase the interactive nature of the buying process. New features such as video catalogue for women’s products and premium products have been playing a stellar role in its online presence.
