India: Maharashtra to develop Mahacot cotton brand

In an all India meet on cotton trade today, in Jalgaon, the Khandesh Ginning and Pressing Factory Owners and Traders Association will give guidance to farmers for producing high grade cotton, to develop the Mahacot brand of cotton.

The association, last year, had made a small effort in this direction, and received encouraging results. This year, the association, taking the branding exercise a step further, will promote the use of Mahacot label. The initiative has been taken to compete with Shankar cotton of Gujarat.

Maharashtra grows a large variety of cottons including Bunny, MCU-5, Shankar-4, Hybrid-4, MECH-1, LRA-5166, compared to Gujarat which is predominantly into Shankar-6 and   Shankar-4.
