India: 'Our motto is to sell good quality products at a reasonable price to our Indian customers'

One of India's leading garment and undergarment manufacturers and exporters, Abhay Industries is always ready to venture into unknown avenues, to take chances and to build ever-lasting relations. In an interview with Shruti Karthikeyan, Abhay Chhapia, CMD of Abhay Industries talks about performance wear fabrics and gives an insight into their latest product developments.

 

What segment is Abhay Industries presently targeting?

Our focus is on performance wear. Increasingly, people are becoming health conscious - they visit the gym, go swimming, cycling and our intention is to get the best fabrics for these purposes at the most reasonable rates. We are considering an optimal price. Pricing becomes important as we focus on non-branded apparel manufacturers. This is a dominant segment in the Indian market, and we would like to help them upgrade their qualities, with the right product and price.

 

Can you tell us about your latest product developments?

We have Coolmax, everyday-odor free swimwear fabrics & bra cups where we have introduced fabrics which wick away moisture from a woman's body, ensuring dry feel & comfort, no sweat or odor. At the moment we are the only one in the world to make and use these fabrics, in a bra cup lamination.

 

What kind of pricing do you have for these moisture absorbent bra cups?

The cost is quite reasonable. For regular foam cups it is Rs 42 and this special foam cups is at Rs 75. This is something definitely a woman would like to have due to the improved performance of the garment.

 

How is the performance of Coolmax fabric?

Coolmax is a very important fabric for Indian climatic conditions. We have a lot of humidity in the atmosphere, which keeps us sweating. And then there is the `comfort' that we have with cotton, we believe that cotton is the ultimate fabric for this kind of weather. But cotton, by itself, does not have the property to wick away moisture. This is possible with Coolmax, which keeps the wearer comfortable in the most humid atmosphere, or while doing strenuous activities.

 

How is your experience with Lycra brand fiber?

 Lycra are the leaders, they help manufacturers, people like us who are using them, to get more exposure. With Lycra, we are able to reach out to quality buyers. At the moment, we will push our core products first. We are planning new projects, which will take place in six to eight months.
