Restarting Ops During Lockdown - The Daily Grind

Truetzschler India restarted factory operations a few weeks ago in Gujarat, amid confusion caused due to the sheer number of government notifications.  Said Thomson Joseph, CEO, Truetzschler India, "While the notifications were answered fairly well, the problem was that we had too many notifications coming in. This takes up a lot of time and adds to the confusion." The company started production with 26% manpower and "utilisation is hardly 20% since we are not working in shifts." This is due to a notification on restriction of movements between 7pm and 7 am. "The biggest challenge is how long the lockdown will continue and when we will be allowed to work with full manpower, and then the challenge is to see if we can load the plant to at least 50-60% utilisation," said Joseph.
