DWPL Strives To Become A World Leader In Hemp Textiles

Dhanesh Weaving Pvt. Ltd. started its Sustainable Division just a few years ago, and within this short span of time it has become one of the leading companies in India for sustainable, innovative textiles. According to Vikas Narang, Director, DWPL, “With an inherent shift to be 100% eco-friendly, we are moving our production towards sustainable fabrics, with a main focus on fibres such as hemp, Bemberg, recycled wool, and jute. We have succeeded in converting approximately 20% of our production towards sustainable fabrics.” The company especially focuses on hemp and hemp blended fabrics. “We started with a few thousand meters of fabric. Today we produce a large array of products - yoga mats, yoga pants, men’s shirts, women’s apparel, wallets, rugs, carpets, shopping bags, laundry bags, and much more. We have successfully produced hemp-wool blend nonwoven, needlepunch fabric. This has a lot of applications across the 12 technical textile segments. We’ve also started making hemp-silk and hemp-Modal blend textiles. It has indeed been a very satisfying journey so far,” said Sanjeev Bhartia, Marketing Director, DWPL. According to Mr Bhartia, “These are all very innovative products, and there are hardly any players worldwide who have such a huge product portfolio in the hemp space. And the portfolio is steadily increasing.” With the ongoing pandemic, and the growing demand from consumers to have safer textiles, DWPL now offers all hemp-based fabrics with HeiQ anti-viral finish, considered to be the most advanced technology in this segment in the world. “Had we not done these innovations, we would have been in trouble like many other textile companies. There was a crisis due to Covid-19. We strongly believe that there is an opportunity in every crisis and we simply seized it,” asserted Mr Bhartia. DWPL has collaborations with some companies for hemp fibre, hemp yarn for knitting and weaving. “We are perhaps the only company in the world to have such a vast and varied array of hemp-based products. With our ongoing innovations, and focus on sustainability, we are striving to become the best company in the world in the hemp space,” concludes Mr Narang.
