Egypt, Eurasian Economic Union Discuss FTA

Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea said that reaching a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is one of Egypt's most important priorities during the current period. The Minister held a meeting with Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board (Minister) in charge of Trade at the EAEU, and his accompanying delegation in Cairo. The parties have exchanged views on current agenda of economic relations and delved into the status of negotiations on a free trade agreement. Slepnev's visit is part of his preparations for the fourth round of negotiations between Egypt and the EAEU on free trade agreement, which is scheduled to be held in the first quarter of next year in the Russian capital Moscow. Gamea asserted that the EAEU countries represent an important window for Egyptian exports to the Central and North Asian, and European markets, noting that Egypt is a major hub for the EAEU's exports to the Arab and African markets. Slepnev pointed out that the agreement will contribute to strengthening joint cooperation, promoting trade exchange, localising common industries, transferring expertise and advanced technologies, and benefiting from the Egyptian market as a gate to African countries.
