Rieter C 72: More Output With Fewer Machines

The Rieter card C 72 meets higher production and quality requirements in fibre preparation Rieter’s customers Pee Vee Textiles Ltd. and Sportking India Ltd. needed to expand production which also meant they required better quality and higher quantity at the preparatory stage. Their machine of choice for this daunting challenge was the card C 72 or ‒ prior to its release ‒ the predecessor model C 70 with the proven working width of 1.5 meters in combination with the Rieter blowroom line VARIOline. Today, they benefit from consistently high-quality sliver produced with fewer machines, less space and less energy. With an installed capacity of 150,000 spindles, including ring, rotor and airjet spinning technology, and 568 airjet looms, Rieter’s customer Pee Vee Textiles Ltd. is one of the largest manufacturers of greige fabric in India. Pee Vee produces high quality weaving yarn from 100% Indian combed cotton with Rieter’s air-jet spinning machines J 26. The quality requirements of these yarns changed the demands in carding production. The company’s claim which is to produce the best quality fabric with a uniform appearance places extra demands on sliver quality. Building on its good experience with the C 70, Pee Vee has now opted for the newer generation of Rieter cards, the C 72. “The C 72 completely fulfills our high demands in fibre preparation. The exceptional high production of the C 72 significantly reduces the energy consumption per kilogram of card sliver,” states Mr. Ashok Akade, Vice President Technical at Pee Vee. C 72 fulfills Pee Vee’s higher demands in fibre preparation With the C 72 Pee Vee produces sliver at 70 kg per hour, which is the benchmark for carding production of 100% cotton for air-jet spinning. The secret behind the C 72’s high performance is the large active carding area and the 32 active flats. The Integrated Grinding System (IGS) sharpens the clothing and thus contributes to the sliver’s high quality which shows in few short fibres and high uniformity. This leads to fewer yarn cuts during air-jet spinning. For a yarn count of Ne 41, Pee Vee achieves a mass variation value of 25% Uster standard with a high 14.7 RKM-value (breaking kilometer). This means that the Com4jet yarns spun at Pee Vee live up to the claim of high strength coupled with low unevenness and few imperfections. The C 72 contributes to low production costs thanks to a significantly lower energy consumption per kilogram card sliver. The static pressure requirement for exhaust air is 800 Pa compared to the C 70’s more than 1 000 Pa. The change translates to the C 72, saving almost 15% filter power consumption. The separate intermittent licker-in waste suction reduces energy use even further. Sportking reaches production level of 90 kg per hour with C 70 Sportking is another Rieter customer who trusts in the blowroom line VARIOline’s superior performance in combination with cards spanning a working width of 1.5 meters. Sportking is India’s leading vertically integrated textile conglomerate with seven manufacturing facilities in North India. Sportking’s President in India, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, is proud that his spinning mill is the undisputed leader in card productivity with the C 70 producing 90 kg per hour for combed compact yarn counts from Ne 30 to Ne 40 (Fig. 3). Thanks to the patented pressure-controlled chute design of the C 70, best-in-class yarn quality is produced with imperfections ranging between 55 and 60. The combined waste of the VARIOline and the card remains between 9.5% to 10% which is a commendable achievement with these cotton varieties. Coupled with other Rieter machines from draw frames to end spinning machines, the system advantage at Sportking delivers a yarn realization of up to 71%. The high productivity along with the low initial investment make the C 72 and its predecessor C 70 the perfect solutions for economical manufacturing. In addition, the energy consumption per kilogram of card sliver is significantly lower than for conventional cards thanks to the high sliver production.
