The 82nd National Garment Fair NGF, organised by
the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India CMAI, opened in Mumbai on
January 20, reinforcing its position as India’s largest and most influential
apparel trade platform. The three-day fair at the Bombay Exhibition Centre
NESCO, Goregaon East, was inaugurated by Shri Rohit Kansal, Additional
Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
More than 1,085 brands and over 1,070 stalls are presenting
Spring Summer 2026 collections across menswear womenswear and kidswear. The
event is spread across 7 lakh square feet and is expected to attract over
20,000 retailers from across the country, underlining the strength of India’s
domestic apparel market.
Shri Rohit Kansal highlighted the scale of the Indian
textile ecosystem, valued at US$ 176 billion, where the domestic sector
contributes nearly US$ 140 billion. He noted that domestic textile consumption
has been growing at 7-8% annually and is expected to accelerate further as
disposable incomes rise and India progresses towards a developed economy.
Apparel spending is projected to benefit directly from this structural shift.
CMAI President Santosh Katariya said the apparel sector
continues to demonstrate resilience in 2026, driven by domestic demand and a
growing preference for quality led products. Rohit Munjal, Vice President and
Chairman of the Fair Committee, emphasised NGF’s role in enabling national
market access and meaningful B2B engagement. Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor CMAI,
pointed to premiumisation and Gen Z led demand as key growth drivers. India’s
apparel revenues are projected to grow by 10.5% in FY26, making platforms like
NGF critical for industry collaboration, sourcing efficiency and future ready
growth.
