Zero Customs Duty on Key Petrochemicals And Textile Raw Materials as West Asia Tensions Bite

In a targeted relief, the Government of India removed customs duty on critical petrochemicals and raw materials for three months. The tariff exemption will benefit sectors like Textiles, Chemicals, Plastics, Packaging, Pharma, Automotive components, and help clamp down on spiraling prices.

In light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the consequent disruptions in global supply chains, the Government of India has decided to bring down the customs tariffs to zero on critical petrochemical products till 30th June, 2026.

Though the measure is temporary, it is expected to bring relief to the industrial sectors and ensure continued availability of critical petrochemical inputs for domestic industry, reduce cost pressures on downstream sectors, and safeguard supply stability in the country.

The exemption is expected to benefit a wide range of sectors dependent on petrochemical feedstock and intermediates, including textiles, chemicals, plastics, packaging, pharmaceuticals, automotive components, and other manufacturing segments. This will also provide relief to consumers of final products.

Among the intermediates and textile raw materials which will attract zero custom duty now are PTA, MEG, PP, PET Chips etc. The detailed list of the products which would draw zero customs duty are as below:
