The claim was to present an 'out of the box' technology for textile pre-treatment at ITMA 2015. The idea was the stepping stone for the first timers and the response was remarkable, making the same a winner with visitors at ITMA, Milan. We talked toK. Venkat Reddy, Managing Director, Geratex, just at the beginning of the show, who was already beaming with confidence and already welcoming many visitors at his stall.
Tell us a little about the innovation on show at ITMA?
Textile processing is all about either putting some chemicals into or out of the fabric. In between, there are a few processes like, bleaching, mercerising, dyeing or washing. Till now all these processes were dependent on the natural absorbing capacity of the fabric. Many a times, when the natural absorption capacity of the fabric lowers, chemicals or wetting agents are used to increase the same. But until now no one has seriously attempted to change mechanisms of the machine to enable a smoother process. What we present is completely breakthrough technology. We have introduced ultrasonic technology into the machine, which induces the absorbtion capacity of the fabric without any chemical actions and makes the penetration process faster.
Why did ultrasonic technology not find its way in processing machines till now?
For many years now, the technology has been discussed and talked about. But using ultrasonic technology for industry specific machines was never thought of before. The textile processing machinery manufacturers were mostly Europeans, and once the shift started happening and the production shifted from Europe to Asia, the drive was more towards sustainability and survival rather than technology or R&D improvement. Also the most important point was making industry size ultrasonic infused processing machines.
Any limitations of this technology?
We have tested the ultrasonic with various steps of processing and at every level we have got success. But perhaps the only limitation is print washing.
How cost effective is this technology?
Cost wise there is hardly any difference when you compare the conventional technology with the ultrasonic technology. And what is interesting is the fact that you do not have to shift to a newer machine to adapt to the new ultrasonic technology. You can simply add our modules in your existing machine to get better results. The benefits will only pull you up and the payback period is that of a year.
