Uster Tester 6 Sets New Benchmark for Measuring Quality

For Uster, ITMA is a platform that rejuvenate customer relations and incite innovative thinking on quality. ITMA 2015 was not an exception. Sivakumar Narayanan, Executive VP, Marketing and Business Development, Uster indulge in a tete-a-tete with Textile Excellence for the first time elaborating more.

The Uster booth has been crowded with visitors all through ITMA. How do you sum up the grand response?

We have recorded a visitor strength spanning across 45 countries in the last few days of ITMA. The show has been extremely busy and we have been on our toes completely. Customers have been very impressed with the innovations and the improved products displayed at the booth. We have concluded many successful deals. Overall we have had one of the best ITMA's in all these years. The Uster Tester 6 was the talking point and the highlight of all queries. Before coming to ITMA, I was a little apprehensive about the market situation but I can now say that those apprehensions have been put to rest quite strongly.

Which Uster innovation was the talk of ITMA this year?

Uster Tester 6 was definitely the highlight at ITMA. This tester sets new global standards for testing. Earlier testers were used to test slivers and yarns and then report data of the tests. But we wanted to shift from this to the next level. Uster Tester 6 takes the tested data and then compares the same with data of other processes. This helps in creating conclusive actions. Analysis of the test reports is that added feature, which sets the Uster Tester 6 ahead of the league. The presence of a highly knowledgeable Uster assistant called Assistant Q within the Uster Tester 6 made it a favourite with visitors.

The Uster Tester 6 must have ensured a great flow of business for Uster? How many significant deals have been cracked?

We have had high interest across the board and concluded many deals all over the world. I can also mention that we have had the maximum response from India, Pakistan, USA, Turkey and South America.

With ITMA being a good business ground for Uster, how do you see the market progressing for you in the coming year?

Before ITMA we have been getting mixed signals from the global textile market. The slowdown in China and India were not giving us good vibes. However today, we are no more in that neutral zone. Now we are sure that we can look to a positive year ahead due to high interest in the newly launched products.

You say 'Think Quality - Think Uster'. Do you think the textile industry in India is ready to pay that extra price for quality?

Definitely the drive world over is towards sustainability. When you witness this changing drive alongside the business demands, you can easily spot that immense restructuring is happening all around the world to indicate a growth, which rides on the fact of quality. Uster has also been facing exclusive demands over the last few years. It is quite clear to us that quality is a raging demand all across the world. Let's give you an interesting example. Uster Ringdata, the ring spinning monitoring system was pulled away from the market 10 to 15 years back, when the demand for testing systems and data management was low.  But owing to the rising demand of quality from countries like India, China, Pakistan and Turkey, we have been pushed to bring back a tool for ring spinning. At ITMA 2015 we launched Uster Sentinel, a new ring spinning optimisation system. Another example underlines the growing importance of quality for spinners. If you see the concept of contamination, earlier we had the yarn clearers today Total Contamination Control is requested. We eliminate contamination at winding but also at fiber cleaning using a unique two-point approach. These examples tell us that the major textile markets & even China to a great extent are banking on quality for a long term growth and they are ready to invest in state-of-the-art quality testing and monitoring equipment.

Do the spinners get an edge to convince the weavers on quality when they function with Uster instruments?

A large segment of the market demands Uster cleared or tested yarn - especially with exported yarn where quality plays a very important role. Suppliers of the big brands have to meet high expectations and to be on the safe side, they use Uster equipment because of two reasons: The incomparably accuracy and the fact that Uster sets the standards for six decades. It is like a pre-conditioned trusted fact to test your yarns on Uster instruments. It is understood like a qualification certificate.
