Bihar Textile Sector Goes on a 72-hour Strike to Oppose VAT

The textile and garment manufacturers and retailers in Bihar went on a three days strike demanding an abolishment of the imposed Value Added Tax (VAT) on clothing and textile items without any delay. The decision to impose the VAT was to compensate for the revenue lost due to the imposition prohibition.

The strike was supported to small and big union including Bihar Garment Manufacturers and Retailers Association (BGMRA), Bihar Industries Association (BIA), and Bihar Chamber of Commerce, emphasizing the new VAT imposition would have unfathomable consequence on the textile industry, particularly the small retailers who are certain to lose their livelihoods in large numbers.
