Grasim's Harihar Unit Wins F&S's Sustainability 4.0 Award

Over the last few years, the word "Sustainability" has become very familiar in the business circles.  It directs the companies to consider not only the traditional way of making profits but also the social and the environmental impact of their activities. To this cause and with a mission to assist the adoption of sustainable practices across Indian companies, Frost & Sullivan held its 2016 Edition of 'India Sustainability Summit' in Mumbai on 27th May.

 

During the conference, renowned speakers from different industries spoke about their company's initiatives and profits on sustainability. This was followed by an award ceremony, where Grasim's Harihar unit was awarded the '"Frost & Sullivan's Sustainability 4.0 Award in Challengers Category - Large Business". More than 70 companies like Johnson & Johnson, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Dr. Reddy's Labs etc., participated in the award process & summit.     

 

Rajeev Gopal, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Grasim's Pulp and Fibre Business along with Ajay Sardana, Vice President and Head - Sustainability received the prestigious award on behalf of Grasim Harihar & Kharach.

 

Speaking on the occasion Rajeev Gopal said, "Sustainability is critical to business success and continuity in today's world and organisations that will be at the forefront of sustainable business practices will be the ones that will have a competitive edge. The initiative by Frost & Sullivan to hold the annual sustainability summit and recognise the champions in this cause is significant. The robust & meaningful framework used for evaluation makes these awards truly aspirational."

 

The keynote speaker from Grasim was Ajay Sardana, who spoke about Birla Cellulose's initiatives regarding its commitment towards a sustainable company. Sardana presented on 'Product Life Cycle Management'.

 

Sardana spoke at length about sustainability explaining the efforts at Birla Cellulose right from seeding to pulping, to processing and manufacturing. Going forward he spoke about the responsible wood sourcing policy and explained how Birla Cellulose strictly adheres to all environment laws and regulations applied by respective countries for wood sources "Our key raw material, wood pulp is sourced through a responsible wood sourcing policy which takes care of high conservation forest, bio diversity and more is planted than cut" he explained.  He further went on to highlight "Studies on LCA of viscose from cradle to factory gate" have been conducted by us through International Agencies, across our various products and plants. The findings show viscose in a better light compared to most other fibres in sustainability credentials.

 

The fibre being ecofriendly and bio-degradable has the highly acclaimed Oeko-Tex 100 Certificate which states it as being safe on a baby skin.
