Fabindia To Roll Out 40 Experience Centres Across Country As Per New Store Format

Fabindia plans to step up its retail business with a beginning with a different store format in South Delhi spread across 10,000 square feet unlike its usual 2,500 square feet stores, it has been officially announced. The new store format will incorporate a wellness centre, cafe, alteration unit, and a kids’ zone.

There are plans to roll out 40 such experience centres across the country in 18 months if the idea is a success. This year (FY17), 32 new stores have been planned. In the next financial year (FY18), it has been planned to open between 60 and 80 stores.

“This will be our first retail experience centre. It will have lots of things for every member of the family. We are now looking at a new face of retail where we are transitioning from retail as being a product transaction to retail as an experience,” Fabindia Overseas Pvt Ltd Managing Director William Nanda Bissell said.

A large part of the rollout will be through a franchise model as per the company’s bold Vision Plan 5, which came into effect from April 1, 2015.

According to this plan, Fabindia plans to grow its revenues from Rs 90 crore a month to Rs 250 crore a month over a period of four to five years. Fabindia has linkage to over 55,000 rural artisans to modern retail stores through its signature hand printed and hand woven fabrics.
