Veteran Textile Industry Leader Arun Jariwala Passes Away At The Age Of 86 In Surat

Veteran textile industry leader and man-made fabric sector expert Arun Jariwala passed away on January 21, Saturday, at the ripe age of 86, after a prolong illness in Surat. Jariwala is survived by his 81-year-old wife Asha Jariwala and 53-year-old son, Ketan Jariwala.

His funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners, including several leading personalities from Surat's textile sector.

Arunbhai, as he was affectionately known, was the longest serving chairman of the Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI) for around 23 years and one of the pioneers who established the Surat Art Silk Cloth Producers' Co-operative Society Limited.

He was also the president of the Man Made Textile Research Association (MANTRA) and the Surat Technical Education and Research Society (STERS).

Apart from this, Jariwala was associated with dozens of trusts as well as social institutions based in Surat. Jariwala was also on various committees of the Ministry of Textile for the upliftment of the textile sector including the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS).

Dinesh Zaveri, a senior textile leader and secretary of MANTRA said that Jariwala's demise is a big loss to the Indian art silk industry.

"Arunbhai was always held in high esteem among textile industry circles across the country. Throughout his life, he worked to take the man-made fabric industry to greater heights," he said.
