PHID Chamber recently held a textile exhibition cum buyer seller meet at Varanasi with an aim to take the textile industry at Varanasi to the next level of expansion and popularity. The agenda for the buyer-seller meet that was organized was to suggest interventions in the textile sector with focus on power loom products for increasing the domestic manufacturing.
V K Kohli, Director, Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Noida, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India expressed the view that this will decrease the import burden while and at the same time help the indigenous industry to look at export potential.
There were around 30 exhibitors during the meet and buyers came from different parts of the country including Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai to work with and source from the local Varanasi textile suppliers and manufacturers.
Kohli elaborated, saying, “Our ministry has been organizing such exhibitions in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi with a focus to highlight the products manufactured by the decentralized power loom sector and allied Handloom industry.”
Vivek Seigell, Director, PHD Chamber said, “We organize many such fairs both in India and abroad. We would like to take this initiative of ours at Varanasi to international levels. We will make all efforts to help and support the local industry of Varanasi as textile industry is critical for the economic growth of the country.”
