Tirupur Exporters Association To Roll Out Mobile Application For EXIM Policy Updates

The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) plans to roll out a mobile application that would help companies to optimise price utilisation in the area of logistics by making available variations in clearing and forwarding charges levied by different companies for similar services and also provide action plans for effective foreign exchange hedging.

The mobile app will be made available to the 150 exporting units who joined the recently floated ‘EXIM logistics panel’ by TEA in Tirupur knitwear cluster, according to TEA general secretary T R Vijayakumar. As a result, exporters will soon receiveg updates on EXIM (export-import) policies, logistics and a few other trade related matters on their mobile phones.

Presently, companies end up paying different sets of charging and forwarding charges. TEA’s aim is to ensure that uniform charges are paid which could be possible if the units collectively come together to negotiate on costs after understanding the variations. Apart from this, the consortium approach to logistics will help the units to employ common trucks to send consignments in a pooled manner instead of sending small quantities of cargo individually even when lots of space remains vacant on trucks.

Among other initiatives to create awareness, TEA also plans to join hands with Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WARP) to educate member exporters about various global environmental compliances. TEA members have already been introduced to the ‘Fashion for Good’ global concept founded by a European firm which unites apparel producers with different stakeholders in the textile supply chain.
