PDEXCIL To Organise Participation At The 10th Colombo Yarn & Fabric Show 2018

Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) Chairman Purushottam K Vanga has stated that the organisation plans to organise Indian participation at the forthcoming 10th Colombo International Yarn & Fabric Show 2018 – Sri Lanka, scheduled during March 8 to March 10, 2018.

“This will again be an MAI programme and I invite all members to participate as exhibitors to expand or initiate export opportunities in the Sri Lankan market which is also a major hub of apparel manufacturing for export for various popular international brands,” he said at PDEXCIL’s 22nd Annual General Meeting.

He informed members and others present at the AGM about successful completion of the reverse buyer-seller meet at Bengaluru organised by it from November 17 to November 18 in 2016, besides buyer-seller meet-cum-exhibition events in China, Dubai, Sri Lanka as well as Germany.

After the annual report and balance sheet were presented, he explained how participation of power loom entrepreneurs in these international events supports them in their export activity. He also spoke about domestic buyer-seller meets which PDEXCIL organises in association with regional offices of the Textile Commissioner which helps small power loom people to grow further.

“With all ups and down faced by power loom sector during the period under report,

PDEXCIL had taken up various activities for the promotion of domestic as well as export market, by conducting five domestic buyers seller meet at major centres in India, two major international events under MAI and three international events, under the MDA scheme. The Reverse Buyer Seller Meet, IITExpo-2016, was another milestone for PDEXCIL which provided a platform for the entrepreneurs in the SME sector to show case their products before the foreign buyers, specially invited from major importing countries,” he said.

He spoke about how PDEXCIL participated for the first time in Intertextile Shanghai, China, with 20 exhibitors, who could explore Chinese market as well as directly interact with buyers from various countries. The participation in Heimtextil Frankfurt and buyer seller meets at Dubai and Colombo, were successfully organised under MDA scheme. Towards domestic market promotions, buyer-seller meets were conducted at Nagpur, Trichy, Hyderabad, Madurai and Delhi, he said

He elaborated about how PDEXCIL acts as a bridge between the government and the power loom industry in representing important issues like implications of GST on the power loom sector and disbursement of subsidy under TUFS.

He also dwelt at length about the introduction of PowerTex India, the comprehensive scheme for power loom sector development, the skill development training programme under ISDS being operated by the regional office of PDEXCIL in Erode and nearby areas, as well as the social security provided to power loom workers by PDEXCIL through a group insurance scheme of the Government of India.

“Under skill development programmes intended to provide skilled workers to the textile industry, PDEXCIL had almost completed its target by successfully completing training of 1,297 candidates in the main phase and another 90 under the additional allotment for SC/ST candidates. PDEXCIL also enrolled 223 power loom workers under the group Insurance scheme and also facilitated exposure visits covering 977 weavers,” he said.
