ITTA Organises Seminar And Exhibition On Technical Textiles For Defence Forces

The Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) organised a two-day seminar and exhibition on technical textiles recently in New Delhi, which was attended by delegates from the Indian Army as well as the technical textiles industry. The event was inaugurated by Union Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani in the presence of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, as well as senior defence officials as well as technical textiles industry representatives.

The seminar discussed various topics related to innovations in protective clothing and uniforms along with medical, building, geo textiles, tentage and load carrying fabrics, extreme cold weather clothing, light weight sleeping bags, special snow socks, snow goggles, thermal insoles and rucksacks.

The Indian technical textiles industry showcased such products manufactured in India at a much cheaper price without affecting the quality. Some of the prominent exhibitors were Garware, Strata Geosystems, Kusumgar, Shiva Texyarn, Dupont, NTC, NITRA, Renfro India, Radnik, Teijin and Barracuda Camouflage.

The minister talked about the need to explore advanced research and development facilities to improve the existing inventory of the army and said that the National Textile Corporation (NTC) will develop a specialised product range for the armed forces using high performance fibres and filaments.

The Indian Army’s Master General of Ordnance (MGO) Lt Gen R R Nimbhorkar urged the industry for early indigenisation of three layered special suits, sleeping bags, boots, multi-purpose and modular gloves used in super high altitude areas besides extreme cold clothing, mattress kapok, face mask, as well as other products. He stated that the industry has a lot of scope to participate in the Rs 3,000-crore general stores and clothing requirements.

ITTA Chairman Pramod Khosla narrated the organisation’s contributions during the last couple of years to the growth of various segments of Indian technical textiles industry.
