Union Ministry Of Textiles Sets Up Steering Committee, Group On Manmade Fibres

The Union Ministry of Textiles has set up a steering committee, an Inter-Ministerial Synergy Group on Manmade Fibres and a Task Force on Textiles India, to help the textile industry in the country achieve its full potential, according to a ministry release.

 

“The Ministry of Textiles has set up institutional mechanisms to synergise efforts of the Ministry of Textiles, related ministries and state governments, to enable the textile industry achieve its full potential of production, exports and employment,” the release stated.

 

The steering committee has been set up to oversee implementation of a Knowledge Network Management System (KNMS) to facilitate exchange of knowledge amongst academia, the farming community and the industry about the productivity of natural fibres as well as diversification of their byproducts.

 

The steering committee under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles would consist of senior functionaries from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the Department of Animal Husbandry, as well as senior officers handling these fibres in the Ministry of Textiles.

 

The Inter-Ministerial Synergy Group on Manmade Fibres (MMF) which would comprise senior officers from the Ministry of Petrochemicals, the Department of Heavy Industries, the Association of Synthetic Fibre Industry, SRTEPC Chairman, Indian Technical Textile Association Chairman and SRTEPC Executive Director has been set up under the Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles.
