Reliance Industries Ltd Set To Launch Co-Branded Apparel Business With ‘RElan’

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which had recently introduced ‘RElan’—a portfolio of specialty fabrics, is in talks with several apparel brands to co-brand apparels, according to one of its top company officials.

RIL is also in the process of adopting a B-2-B-2-C approach under its Hub Excellence Programme (HEP) in which it is set to forge partnerships with textile manufacturers to provide technology for the manufacture of high performance fabrics under RElan.

The company intends to take high quality and high performance products to consumers in a tie-up with brands which have been identified in categories which include denim, ethnic wear, formal wear and women’s wear.

RIL has entered into a partnership with the US-based VF Corporation which owns the Wrangler brand and the largest denim player globally.

Wrangler Jeans will soon be be launched in India and Asia Pacific markets, according to RIL sources, who also said that advanced discussions are on with five more brands and there could be tie-ups with many more brands.

The co-branding exercise is expected to give RIL a foothold in the Rs 2,50,000 crore Indian apparel industry comprising almost a 50-50 share of menswear and women’s wear.

The company has already identified around 60 spinners, weavers and garmenters who could be eventually become its partner.

Incidentally, RIL had introduced RElan in October in Bengaluru. In Northern India, RIL will target around 200 textile manufacturers to make RElan fabrics.
