Textile Park Soon To Be Set Up At Solapur: State Govt.

Maharashtra state textile minister Subhash Deshmukh recently announced that the government had set apart a 50-acre land at Solapur for purpose of erecting a garment park and textile training centre. The said project has an estimated cost of INR 500 crore. The minister was speaking at Solapur while inaugurating the second International Uniform and Garment exhibition.

The minister averred that the government will supply the needed infrastructure to ensure that the park is successfully set up and launched. This in turn will enhance employment prospects in the state by absorbing a high number of skilled and semi-skilled workforce personnel, the minister added.

Providing statistics, the minister informed that the uniform sector within the garment industry that included schools, corporate wear and government organizations is currently worth over INR 18,000 crore.  Over 10,000 crore out of this total corpus is from the organized sector, he added.

Of the rest, Solapur contributes nearly INR 1,200 crore with uniforms churned out from around 1,000 plus manufacturing units in the city, employing over 60,000 skilled workers, he observed. "Solapur is set to become a major textiles hub for providing uniforms for the armed forces and police personnel in the country," the minister forecast.

In addition to the minister’s bonanza, Bank of Maharashtra has announced the proposed grant of special credit scheme that will help the manufacturers and traders. This was disclosed by a senior bank official.
