Guj Govt. Move to Exclude Fabrics From E-Way Bill Generation Brings Cheer To Traders

Manmade fibre textile traders in Surat, the Manchester of India, celebrated and welcomed the move by the Commissioner of State Tax, Gujarat to exempt all types of fabrics from e-way bill generation for the intra-city and intra-state movement. The recent move by the state government came into effect with the issuance of a notice under the Gujarat Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.

The e-way bill rule will be enforced pan India with effect from February 1, 2018. With the current notification from the Commissioner of State Tax, the textile traders in the state feel more at ease.

The largesse has not yet been extended to the yarn sector. The intra-city and intra-state movement of yarn mandates the generation of e-way bill. The situation is not much to the satisfaction of the trading community as yarn is the basic raw material for the entire power loom sector. Yarn along with 18 other items as specified in the State Tax Commissioner’s notification would attract the generation of the e-way bill.

Sections of the trader community expressed delight over the exclusion of fabrics of all types from the e-way bill generation. They however, said that they will continue to press forth with their demand for exclusion of yarn and other items that are specified in the notification.
