Nylon Prices Up In Asian Markets

Caprolactam (CPL)

Caprolactam prices were up in Asian markets although there was some softness in the second week of February as feedstock benzene prices plunged sharply that week. Trading in caprolactam market was insipid ahead of Lunar New Year holidays. Asian markers were up US$20 on the fortnight with SE and FE Asia at US$2,000-2,050 per metric ton while Japan made goods were traded at US$2,000-2,050 per metric ton. In Europe, negotiations began in February caprolactam, with players discussing possible rollovers despite a double-digit drop in benzene costs for the month. January contract price was assessed at Euro 2,269-2,431 per metric ton FD NWE.

Nylon Filament Yarn (NFY)

Nylon filament yarn prices were stable to up on steady chip market and strong caprolactam cost support. However, trading volume decreased ahead of Lunar New Year holidays while most producers enjoyed good margins. Demand for FDY, DTY and POY was passable as buyers stocked up on buy-rise mentality. Nylon FDY 70D/24F SD prices were flat at 22.00-22.50 Yuan per kg (US$3.48-3.56 per kg), while DTY70D was up at the upper end at 23.00-24.50 Yuan per kg (US$3.64-3.88 per kg), but weak Yuan pegged the rise to just US cents 1. Export offer for FDY 70D/24F were in the range of US$ 3.20 – 3.25 per kg FOB.
