Massive Fire Guts Bhopal's NTC Owned Mill

A massive fire broke out at New Bhopal Textile Mill owned by National Textile Corporation, located at Chandbarh township in Bhopal, devastating property to the tune of crores of rupees but no injuries or casualties were reported. The fire broke out in the early hours of February 25, 2018.

The cause of the fire was reported to be a short circuit that was earlier detected but not repaired properly. The unit of the New Bhopal Textile Mill destroyed in the fire was set up recently in 2013 with imported machinery. The unit was producing synthetic textiles. The Mill’s second unit and the godown are reported to be safe. The mill premises at the time of the fire had contained all the yarn and fabric that was meant to be processed.

The fire spread rapidly and could not be controlled as initially only two fire-tenders were pressed into service and proved to be inadequate. Over 40 fire-tenders took more than 7 hours to brought the fire under control. People working in the mill are in a state of shock as they are rendered jobless overnight and their future hangs uncertain.
