CAI To Revive Domestic Conference Tradition With Debut In April At Mumbai

The Cotton Association of India (CAI) used to organise two domestic conferences every year; one in Mumbai and the other at some upcountry centre. In line with this the CAI Board of Directors has decided to revive this long and rich tradition and the first domestic conference in the series of Cotton India will be held at Mumbai on Monday, 9th April, 2018, at Hotel Sahara Star, Opp. Domestic Airport, Vile Parle (East), Mumbai.

 

The theme of the Conferenceis “Challenges Facing Cotton Trade”. This Conference will provide a platform for extensive deliberations on various topical issues of importance to the stakeholders of entire value chain in India. Besides, it will provide a wonderful opportunity to the delegates for networking, since over 500 delegates like textile mills, traders, MNCs, ginners, exporters, importers and farmers from all over India are expected to attend.

 

Presidential address will be given by Atul S. Ganatra, President CAI.  Dr. Kavita Gupta, Textile Commissioner will be the Chief Guest. P. Natraj Chairman of South India Mills Assn (SIMA) and Vice Chairman of ICF and P. Ali Rani CMD of CCI will be the guests of honour. Pasha Patel Chairman State Agriculture Price Commission (SAPC) Maharashtra, Cotton veteran  Suresh A. Kotak Chief Kotak Group, i Navin Chaurasia – Vice President Olam Agro India Pvt Ltd., will be other eminent speakers who will be sharing their thoughts and expertise with the delegates.

 

This conference will be one of the best in its kind and during this mega events, CAI will give Life Time Achievement Award, Best award to cotton farmers of main producing states for achieving highest yield, Nine Cotton Ratna Awards to the veterans of the cotton trade for their outstanding contributions, Eight Best Ginners Awards to ginning factories, Three  first generation “Best Spinning Mills” Awards and Three  Best Broking Service Awards to brokers who have contributed a lot  towards the achievements of  cotton sector for the last 40 to 60 years.    

 

CAI in its February 2018 estimate of the cotton crop for 2017-18 crop year starting from 1st October 2017 estimated cotton crop at 362 lakh bales of 170 kgs. each which is lower by 13 lakh bales than its first estimate of 375 lakh made in the month of November 2017. This decline in production consists of fall in output in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana etc mainly due to severe pink bollworm infestation and the scarcity of water in some states.
