VTT Plans To Commercialize Flexi-Temperature Smart Textiles

The Finland-based smart textile giant, VIT Technical Research Centre has come out with a functional textile that can adjust itself to suit the ambient temperature requirements of your body in any weather be it hot or cold.

On the basis of external conditions, the temperature of the fiber technology you are adorning gets automatically adjusted. This feature can come in handy for both performance athletes and medical requirements in hospitals.

Acting on the principle of Human Thermal Model, the technology comprises a calculation tool that measures the data signals from the human body and the wearer’s environment to determine whether the garment being worn must be hotter or cooler.

Currently, performance fibers in the market are struggling to overcome the barriers posed by the requirement to meet individual body temperatures. The VTT product comes as a response to this acute problem and paves the way for meeting requirements of individual body temperatures.

This newly evolved VTT technology can come in handy for both surgeons and patients who are subject to elevated or lowered body temperatures before or after surgery. This in turn affords a high potential for growth in the realm of smart textiles. The operating principle in this is the clothing continuously calculates and adjusts in accordance with how much cooing is required for the body of the surgeon or patient. Currently VTT is on the lookout for corporate partners to bring out a commercially viable model of this technology.
