Solidarity with Rana Plaza disaster victims

Bangladesh High Commission Canberra organizes "Pitha Utsab"

 

The Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra recently organized a fundraising event “Pitha Utsab” (Festival of Sweets) followed by cultural program on August 31, 2013, to help the victims to Rana Plaza collapse disaster that happened on April 24th in Savar, Bangladesh. The event, initiated by Jasmine Masud, wife of the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia, along with the spouses of personnel of the High Commission joined in enthusiastically to raise funds for the hapless victims.

 

Six stalls displayed traditional homemade pitha (sweet meats) of different shapes, names and flavors at the event, drawing a large number of local foodies, expats, along with members of the diplomatic corps. At the end of the program, Jasmeen addressed the vote of thanks to the participants. The funds raised  from the event will be handed over to the victims soon, said Jasmeen at the end of the event.
