TN To Witness RMG Manufacturing Units Boom In Rural Sector

Recently, the Tamil Nadu rural textile sector found itself in the news for good reasons. The rural panchayats have opened up ready-made garment manufacturing centers. These centers are jointly promoted by the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Social Welfare Department for the Selleppampatti and Thattiengarpatti village panchayats.

 

The manufacturing units were inaugurated by electricity minister P Thangamani and social welfare minister V Saroja on April 22, 2018.

 

Electricity minister Thangamani disclosed to the audience that the RMG centers will benefit 30 member of the women self-help groups of each village of the two panchayats. He elaborated, stating, Every Youth Garments, a Rasipuram-based firm has signed a contract and is disposed to place orders for the procurement of the ready-made garments.

 

The function was presided over by district collector M. Asia Mariam. Also present on the occasion were R. Mani, project director, Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission and others.

 

The presiding dignitaries and ministers together also laid the foundation for construction of 16 additional classrooms and two modern laboratories at Thiruvalluvar Government Arts college at Rasipuram.

 

The total outlay of the project is slated to be at INR 3.30 crore.
