Colombo: 1900 Industry representatives attend India International Fabric Expo

India’s Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) organized India International Fabric Expo- Colombo 2013 (IIFE-2013) in Sri Lanka, Colombo from September 8-10, 2013. Around 1900 industry representatives including leading garment manufacturers, whole-sellers, and institutional buyers from Sri Lanka attended the event. Fabrics and made-ups were on displayed by the 53 Indian participating companies.

 

During the inaugural function, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries was signed, for co-operation in the development of SMEs in handloom, powerloom and textiles and promotion of trade.

 

The PDEXCIL delegation was invited by the Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Govt. of Sri Lanka to his office on September 10, 2013 to discuss issues regarding promotion of trade and joint ventures between the businessmen of both the countries. Taxation issues and quota on garment exports from Sri Lanka to India were also discussed during this meeting. Sri Lanka’s Textile Secretary informed that within a month he will again invite quality fabrics manufacturers of PDEXCIL to Sri Lanka for direct interaction with garment manufacturers, and to ensure increased fabric sourcing from India under the duty-free scheme. Indian exhibitors conducted business worth US$ 30 million, during the show.
