India's Textile Machinery Exports Up By 20.03% In 2017-18

India's textile machinery trade balance with the world has gone up by 16.62% to US$ 4766.78 million in 2017-18. India's imports which takes the lion's share of 84% from the total has registered a growth of 16.02% to US$ 4027.29 million compared to the previous fiscal. China, Japan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Vietnam, the Philippines, Korea and Singapore are the top ten import markets of India.  On the other side, the textile machinery exports from India to the world registered a growth of 20.03% to US$ 739.49 million in 2017-18. The top ten export markets for India's textile machinery are Bangladesh, Germany, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, Turkey, Vietnam, Italy and U.A.E. India's Textile Machinery Exports in 2017-18 The textile machinery exports from India to the world have witnessed a remarkable growth of 20.03% to US$ 739.49 million in 2017-18 over the previous fiscal year, where the machinery exports totalled to US$ 616.08 million with growth of 1.7% (2016-17), whereas in 2015-16 India had witnessed a negative growth of -1.5%. From 2012-13 to 2017-18, textile machinery exports have perceived a growth of 68.5%. Spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines (HS code 8445) shares the lion's portion of 35% from the total textile machinery exports, with an export value of US$ 255.15 million in 2017-18. Bangladesh is the topmost export market for India's textile machinery. The country's exports to Bangladesh totalled US$ 102.71 million. Regionwise, Asia is the largest market for Indian textile machinery, accounting for 55% share of total textile machinery exports. Commodity-wise textile machinery exports from India Spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines under the HS code 8445 are the topmost commodity exported with an export value of US$ 255.15 million. This commodity has consistently been the topmost commodity from 2014-15. Under this commodity, cotton spinning ring frames (HS Code 84452013) accounts for a 59% share. Exports totalled US$ 150.16 million in 2017-18 with a growth of 26.7%. Cotton spinning ring frame machines where majorly exported to the Netherlands with value of US$ 32.83 million. Other important markets for India's ring frames are Bangladesh (US$ 28.77 million), Pakistan (US$ 25.27 million), Malaysia (US$ 12.73 million) and Indonesia (US$ 9.17 million). Cotton combing machines (HS code 84451210) registered an export growth of 16.93% for 2017-18 totaling to US$ 16.93 million. Vietnam is the top market for cotton combing machines exports totaling to US$ 10.37 million, a growth of 300%. Cotton spinning roving frames (HS code 84452014) has witnessed remarkable growth of 388.4% totaling to US$ 11.82 million. For cotton spinning frame machine, China is the topmost market in 2017-18 with value of US$ 7.06 million. The exports for printing machinery, including digital printing machines under the HS code 8443 has witnessed a negative trend in 2015-16 and 2016-17 of -14.6% and -9.97% respectively. But in the last fiscal year (2017-18) the commodity has shown a rising trend with growth of 24.3% and sharing 14% share from the total textile machinery exports. The exports for this commodity totalled to US$ 105.64 million. Bangladesh is the topmost market for this product. Auxiliary machinery used with heading of 8444, 8445,8446/8447 (HS code 8448) used with other machines are the second highest commodity with respect to export value and growth. The commodity has seen a growth of 18.4% with a share of 21%, export value totaling to US$ 156.38 million. In 2015-16 and 2016-17 the commodity had dropped by -11.5% and -4.47 respectively. Weaving machine (loom) (HS code 8446) has witnessed average growth of 3.79% totaling to US$ 32.35 million with a share of 4% in the total textile machinery exports. This commodity has been consistency growing its exports value from 2012-13 showing a growth of 242.69%. Exports of sewing machines and accessories under the HS code 8452 have perceived a negative growth of -8.93% totaling US$ 57.29 million in 2017-18. India's sewing machines are majorly exported to Germany, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh and Singapore. Country-wise textile machinery exports from India     Country-wise, Bangladesh tops the list in textile machinery exports from India. Exports to Bangladesh totalled to US$ 102.71 million in 2017-18, growth of 17.53% and share of 14% from the total textile machinery exports from India. Spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines (HS code 8445) was the most exported commodity to Bangladesh in 2017-18 with export value of US$ 52.82 million. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines exports to Bangladesh has seen fabulous improvement with growth of 41.38% totaling to US$ 13.93 million in 2017-18. Sewing machine exports totalled to US$ 3.97 million recording a growth of 61.31%. Germany stands second in the export segment in 2017-18, whereas in 2016-17 Germany stood on the third position. India's textile machinery exports to Germany witnessed a growth of 79.28% totalling to US$ 59.79 million and a share of 8% of total textile machinery exports. Auxiliary machinery used with heading of 8444, 8445,8446/8447 are the most exported commodity to Germany with value of US$ 18.88 million, growth of 70.34%. Printing machines and knitting machines have seen a significant drop of -25.63% and -56.93% in exports. The Netherlands, which was the ninth largest export market for Indian textile machinery in 2016-17, has climbed to third place in the last fiscal. Exports to the Netherlands totalled US$ 51.99 million with a growth of 139.8% in 2017-18 and shares 7% from the total textile machinery exports. The Netherlands has mainly imported spinning machines from Indian manufacturers, worth US$ 35.37 million, a growth of 387.23%. Pakistan has climbed one rank higher in the last fiscal year from the previous fiscal, now being the fourth largest export market for Indian textile machinery. The exports totalled to US$ 37.97 million with growth of 47.46%. Exports to Indonesia have dropped by 8.30%, the country is now the fifth largest export market, whereas in 2016-17, the country was the second largest market. In 2017-18, India's textile machinery exports to Indonesia were valued at US$ 37.97 million. Spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines is the topmost commodity exported to Indonesia, exports valued to US$ 18.01 million with a growth of 3.55%. Weaving machines (looms) exports to the country have dropped by 50.05%. The other top export markets for Indian textile machinery are China, Turkey, Vietnam, Italy and U.A.E respective to their ranks. Region-wise textile machinery exports from India     Asia is the largest export market for India's textile machinery. India has exported US$ 403.54 million worth of textile machines to Asia in 2017-18 with a growth of 9.07% and share of 55% from the total textile machinery exports. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines under the HS code 8443 is the topmost commodity exported to Asia totaling to US$ 169.10 million, growth of 31.33%. India has witnessed a drop in exports of certain  machines to Asia, these include knitting machines, sewing machines, weaving machines and machine used for finishing of felt and nonwoven, man-made textile material, etc. India's exports to Europe has seen remarkable growth of 51.4% totaling US$ 190.25 million and stakes 26% share from the total textile machinery exports. Auxiliary machines were majorly exported to Europe in the last fiscal year. The commodity's exports totalled to US$ 58.47 million with a growth of 27.9%. The second topmost commodity exported is the spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines with an export value of US$ 58.38 million, growth of 91.85%. Africa is the third largest export market for Indian textile machinery, accounting for 10% of India's total textile machinery exports. In 2017-18, exports to Africa grew 42.03% to US$ 75.39 million. Printing machines including digital priting machine (HS code 8443) were the largest exported product in 2017-18, with an export value of US$ 24.59 million. Exports to America totalled US$ 48.47 million and accounted for 7% of India's total textile machinery exports. Exports to CIS & Baltics totalled US$ 21.65 million sharing 3% from the total. India's Textile Machinery Imports India's textile industry remains heavily dependent on imported technology. Textile machinery imports to India from the world have witnessed an upward trend with growth of 16.02% totalling US$ 4027.29 million in 2017-18 over the previous fiscal year. In 2016-17 the country had witnessed a negative growth of -5.31% totaling to US$ 3471.23 million. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines is the topmost commodity imported by India, accounting for 35% of total textile machinery imports. In 2017-18, textile printing and allied machinery imports amounted to US$ 1414.16 million, up by 14.22% compared to the previous fiscal. China is the topmost supplier to India. China's exports to India totalled US$ 1594.08 million. Regionwise, Asia accounts for 68% share of India's textile machinery imports. Commodity-wise textile machinery imports by India Printing machinery, including digital printing machines (HS code 8443) is the topmost commodity imported by India with a value of US$ 4,027.29 million with a growth of 14.22% and shares 35% from the total textile machinery imports. This commodity has consistently been the topmost commodity from 2012-13 to 2017-18. Extruding, drawing, texturing machines (HS code 8444) has witnessed an incredible growth of 500.31% totaling to US$ 137.41 million in 2017-18 over the previous fiscal year where the imports totalled to US$ 22.89 million. Currently the commodity stakes 3% share from the total imports of textile machinery. Imports from Germany at US$ 75.31 million in 2017-18 grew 734.92% and accounted for 55% of the total imports of the commodity. India's weaving machinery (looms) imports account for 13% of total textile machinery imports. In 2017-18, imports were valued at US$ 542.98 million with a growth of 22.80%.  China was the number one supplier of weaving looms to India, with exports worth US$ 203.92 million. Knitting, embroidery, trimming, braiding and other machines under the HS code 8447 have also shown a steady growth in 2017-18 with 11.64% totaling to US$ 442.17 million and it stakes 11% share from total textile machinery imports. Again here China tops the list with import value of US$ 304.16 million in 2017-18. Imports of spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines under the HS code 8445 has increased marginally by 2.26% to US$ 375.83 million in 2017-18. In 2016-17 the commodity had gone down by -3.5% to US$ 367.53 million. Currently the commodity stakes 9% share from the total textile machinery imports. Germany is the top import market for this commodity, but has lost its export value by -13.42% totalling to US$ 119.14 million in 2017-18. Japan being the second largest import market for this commodity has also lost its import value by -9.39% to US$ 82.14 million. Machinery for manufacturing and finishing of felt or non-woven under the HS code 8449 has gone down by 23.60% to US$ 28.3 million in 2017-18. China is the top import market for the commodity, but the import value has dropped by -6.51% totaling to US$ 19.54 million. Imports from Germany, the  second largest supplier to India,  went up by 78.18% to US$ 3.92 million. Country-wise textile machinery imports by India    Country-wise, China is the largest supplier of textile machines to India. Imports from China totalled US$ 1594.08 million in 2017-18 with a growth of 25.05% and share 40% from the total textile machinery imports. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines under the HS code 8443 was the most imported commodity by India from China, the import value totalled US$ 503.61 million with a growth of 11.77% and it shares 32% from total textile machinery imports from China. Extruding, drawing, texturing machines has shown a remarkable progress in 2017-18 with imports growing by 471.07% to US$ 57.07 million. Imports of weaving machine (looms) under the HS code 8446 has also witnessed a remarkable growth of 80.89% totalling to US$ 80.58 million in 2017-18 compared to the previous fiscal and it stakes 13% from total textile machinery imports from China. Knitting, embroidery, trimming, braiding and other machines under the HS code 8447 with share of 19% of total textile machinery imports from China has gained a growth of 12.04% totaling to US$ 304.16 million for the last fiscal year. Japan is the second largest textile machinery supplier to India, accounting for 14% of India's machinery imports. During 2017-18, India's imports of Japanese machines amounted to US$ 573.79 million, 2.10% lower than in the previous fiscal. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines were the most imported machines from Japan.  The import value for this commodity totalled to US$ 228.99 million with a growth of 3.37%. Imports of weaving machine (looms) under the HS code 8446 and spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines under the HS code 8445 from Japan,  witnessed a downward growth of -16.64% and -9.39% respectively. Germany accounts for 13% share of India's textile machinery imports. The country currently is the third largest textile machinery supplier to India. The imports totalled US$ 531.17 million with a growth of 14.49% in 2017-18. Spinning, twisting and yarn preparation machines commodity topped the list of imports from Germany. The imports were valued at  US$ 119.14 and  witnessed a negative growth of -13.42%. Imports of auxiliary machinery used with heading of 8444, 8445,8446/8447 were valued at US$ 102.17 million, up by 3.45% in 2017-18. Even weaving machines (looms) have shown a vast growth of 103.32% totalling to US$ 10.04 million in 2017-18 from the previous fiscal. India has witnessed an increase in imports from Italy with growth of 18.23% totaling to US$ 236.47 million in 2017-18. Italy exported printing machinery, including digital printing machines (under the HS code 8443) the most to India with value of US$ 61.95 million. Region-wise imports of textile machinery by India Asia is the largest import market for India. India has imported US$ 2725.16 million of textile machinery from Asia with a growth of 17.10% and shares 68% from the total textile machinery imports. Printing machinery, including digital printing machines has been imported the most by India from Asia with total of US$ 1098.28 million and it stakes 40% share from the total textile machinery imports from Asia. Weaving machine (looms) imports have improved 21.26% in 2017-18 to US$ 368.28 million. Even knitting, embroidery, trimming, braiding and other machines have shown an average upward trend with 12.93% growth, imports summed to US$ 365.94 million. Europe is the second largest textile machinery supplier to India, exporting machines worth US$ 1230.9 million in 2017-18, clocking a growth of 13.98%. Europe accounts for 31% of India's total textile machinery imports. Here too, printing machines under the HS code 8443 have been imported the most from Europe. Imports totalled US$ 269.5 million.
