Tirupur Garment Exporters To Jump Into E-commerce Fray To Reach B2C Markets

Things are set to change for the better for export oriented Tirupur manufacturers who have so far catered to the B2B segment by and large with a few exceptions. Tirupur city is known for being an export hub and earns precious foreign exchange in dollars for the Indian textile sector. The manufacturers here have been catering to the business houses of leading brands globally.  With the advent of e-commerce industry the scenario is set for transforming Tirupur into a hub for both B2B and B2C (Business to consumer) markets.

The change in the air came to light soon after the world’s leading e-commerce company, amazon.com evinced keen interest in lending a e-platform for the Tirupur knitwear manufacturers. This will enable them to promote their brands and reach consumers directly too.

Raja M Shanmugham President Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), voiced his opinion on this soon to be trend, stating, “The networking costs being high, constrained the promotion of brands only to the top players. However, things are set to change with both amazon.com and the Indian model of e-commerce platform Flipkart approaching Tirupur manufacturers for striking a partnership deal. This will provide fair grounds for even small manufacturers to sell their ware directly to the consumers.”

Amazon which recently even set up a workshop for the apparel exporters from Tirupur was of the opinion that there was high demand globally for apparels emanating from Tirupur. “We would like to exploit this potential optimally by helping small and medium enterprises to cater to the B2C market adequately in the near future,” said a company spokesperson. The textile goods include T-shirts, dresses and other such products.

Amazon has readied teams to assist exporters and apparel manufacturers to study and understand the patterns of demand across countries and act accordingly by launching products that will cater to various local tastes.
