Women can now stop compromising on size misfits when they shop for their garments as country-wise sizing surveys have come a long way to lift the requirement of purchasing expensive designer made dresses.
For, India along with 14 other countries have conducted sizing surveys that can gain knowledge of the average size of the Indian body measurements and generate end products better suited to Indian sizing outfits.
This will make personal fashion statements an easier endeavor for women. Flowy ariy drapes or even custom made ornate top-wear or mass produced western and branded traditional wear, the range being endless, the women have many choices. However, factory produced one-size for all branded wear pose problems as they do not suit the body dimensions of Indian women.
A cross section of Indian women spoken to conceded that only time they manage to achieve a perfect fit is when their dress is designer made. They also conceded the impracticality of wearing designer wear for all occasions and every day of their routine. Consequently women are forced to rely on retail stores.
So far the scenario was that the apparel industry was using tweaked versions of the International size charts. But now there is good news. The NIFT has intervened and announced that India will get its own size chart in another three years’ time. Standardized size charts are currently available in US, Canada and Mexico.
The women welcomed this move stating, “An Indian standardized size chart would be a great blessing for shoppers and would save them from the agony of trying to figure out what online shopping sizes like 8 and 12 mean in real terms.”
