ITTA, ITF, SIMA Organise First National Investors Conclave On Technical Textiles

Technical textiles is considered the next big opportunity or sunrise sector in most parts of the world. The ability to add high value to products, to create new, niche products and to cater to the demands of sophisticated consumers makes the players in this sector the future champions of the textile industry. That said, the growth of the technical textile industry in India has been rather slow, both in terms of the manufacturing capabilities as well as the per capita domestic consumption of technical textiles, a key determinant in the future growth of the industry. To address this problem and to create awareness on the potential for technical textiles, ITTA, the Indian Technical Textile Association, alongwith the Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) and the South India Mills Association (SIMA) launched the first ever Nation Investment Conclave on Technical Textiles NICTT 2019 in Coimbatore, today. NICTT 2019 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Raghavendra Singh, Secretary Textiles, Govt of India with AK Singh, Director General, Life Sciences, DRDO as the Guest of Honour. India is a country of entrepreneurship and no place is more recognised for this than Coimbatore and neighboring regions of Western Tamil Nadu. Recognising the need to educate potential entrepreneurs on what, and more importantly, what not should be done in technical textiles is the goal of NICTT 2019. Eminent speakers have been selected from various international consultants, research organisations, eminent government R&D organisations and such to provide “practical views on desirable projects”, their market potential and how to actually launch such ventures. This direct attempt is one of a kind in the country. Speaking on the topic , Dr Sundararaman KS, The Chairman ITTA said, "We want to see more new entrepreneurs coming into the field of technical textiles than just established players expanding. The Indian supply base has to grow tenfold to make some meaningful impact in the international arena." Prabhu Damodaran, Convenor, ITF, said, "Our region is dynamic and the entrepreneurs here have been at the forefront of many new approaches and business opportunities. I am confident that this programme will go a long way in motivating South Indian firms to venture into technical textiles. Being an event with practical approach, entrepreneurs can get first hand information about the industry and its potential.” Nataraj, Chairman, SIMA in his welcome address mentioned about the growing market opportunities in this sunrise sector and urged textile entrepreneurs to focus on making more value added products like technical textiles. One hundred and forty textile entrepreneurs from across Tamil Nadu attended the event. After the event too, ITTA will guide entrepreneurs in this region for establishing new ventures in this field. The Program includes international speakers from Nissenlken Japan and Messe Frankfurt and special speakers from Govt agencies like DRDO.
