India: 'Alidhra will focus on technology import substitution in technical textiles'

We received very good response for the machines we have on display. The industry is taking keen interest to understand technology, to make the right decisions for setting up production plants.

What does Alidhra offer in technical textiles?

At the show, we have on display yarn twisting machines. These yarns find applications in the automotive sector. Till now, the industry had to depend on imported machines. This is the first machine of its kind, which will make India self-sufficient to process these yarns.

What are the benefits of using these machines?

These are the lowest energy consuming machines in the market. A local set-up ensures quick maintenance & after-sales service. Production cost of machine is also quite low. So, a company venturing into tyre cord or automotive fabric manufacturing, can now set up a plant at 50% of the cost, compared to a plant using European technology.

How important is the technical textiles sector for Alidhra?

We have established a separate division for technical textiles. Our initial focus is on import substitution. High cost of technology has been a hurdle to the growth of the industry. China, by developing indigenous technology has made significant progress.

We will initially concentrate on twisting and processing of yarn. Over the next few years, we aim to offer the entire range of machines for manufacturing tyre cord fabrics from winding, twisting to weaving.

Do other Indian textile machinery manufacturers also see scope in this segment?

Yes. Most of the textile engineering companies will increase their offerings to include machines for technical textiles and nonwovens.
