Maharashtra textile department plans to generate 15,000 jobs in Vidarbha

Around 14 textile parks are coming up in the state and expected to generate an additional 14,000 jobs with a possible investment of Rs 16,000 crore, said state textile minister Mohammad Arif Naseem. Maharashtra textile department has planned to offer seven packages for Vidarbha region with projected investment to the tune of Rs 18 billion with an aim to generate 15,000 jobs.

 

Presently, around 500 textile units have been started in the state and other projects are in the pipeline, state textile minister Mohammad Arif Naseem Khan said. The government's new textile policy has evoked tremendous response from investors and industrial sector as well, he said. Presently, textile parks have 580 units with an investment of Rs 39.31 billionin the state, he said.

 

The state government has started an online process for release of subsidy to the investors. The textile policy, unveiled last year, offers subsidy to units coming up in the farmers' suicide-hit Vidarbha region, besides Marathwada and Khandesh.

 

The state produces around 90 lakh bales of cotton every year from Vidarbha, Marathwada and Khandesh areas. While some of it is consumed by industry within the state, the rest is procured by units outside the state or is exported, sources said.
