OTEXA’s latest data on US imports of textile and apparel reveals a picture that is not all glum. US imports of textiles and apparel in December 2020 were slightly better than in 2019. And the fall in imports in full year 2020 was not as severe as was expected. Imports of textiles and apparel in December 2020 totalled 6303.6 million square metre equivalent (MSME), an increase of 22.3%, compared to December 2019. Imports of textiles were 4423.7 MSME in December 2020, up 36.2% from December 2019. Imports of apparel were 1882.7 MSME in December 2020, down 1.4% from December 2019. Imports of textiles and apparel were 67333.9 MSM for the full year 2020, a decline of 3.2% from 2019. Imports of textiles were 44201.1 MSME in 2020, an increase of 5.4% compared to 2019. And apparel imports in 2020 were 23132.8 MSME, down 16.4% from 2019.
