India's Cotton Output Estimated At 38.82 Mln Bales For FY14

The cotton crop for the season 2013-14, beginning October 1, 2013, is estimated at 38.82 million bales (170 kg each), according to the Cotton Association of India (CAI).

 

The crop in Gujarat is estimated at 12.08 million bales in 2013-14 compared to 8.33 million bales in the previous season. Similarly, in Maharashtra the total output is estimated at 7.92 million bales in 2013-14 season, compared to 7.25 million bales in 2012-13, according to CAI data.

 

The total cotton supply is estimated at 44.75 million bales while the domestic consumption is estimated at 29.5 million bales, thus, leaving an available surplus of 15.25 million bales. The arrivals as on May 31, 2014, are placed at 37.02 million bales.
