Dr DJ Memorial Photography Contest

When you visit the offices of Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd (LMW) in Coimbatore, you will likely be mesmerised by the multi-coloured nature photographs adorning the walls. These are photographs clicked by the past chairman and managing director of LMW Ltd., Dr D Jayavarthanavelu, father of Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, the CMD of Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd.

The Dr DJ Memorial Photography contest (DJMPC) is a much-renowned competitive event in photography that attracts entries from Indian and international photographers. The DJMPC International Photography Contest 2022 was the 11th edition of this prestigious contest.

LMW is the organiser and sponsor of DJMPC, an annual competitive event to identify, recognise and honour talent in photography. LMW Ltd. instituted DJMPC in memory of its past Chairman and Managing Director, Dr D Jayavarthanavelu (DJ). The event is held to remember and celebrate the immense passion that Dr DJ had for photography.

DJMPC's first edition was held in 2012 and has received an overwhelming response from the photography fraternity. Judging by the response that the eleventh edition of DJMPC received this year, this annual event is gradually evolving into a significant calendar event in photography.

The jury for the 2022 contest included Mr Ganesh H Shankar from Bangalore, an engineer by profession and a nature photographer by passion. The second jury member was Mr Kedar Gore, who is involved in wildlife conservation and environmental protection and has been a passionate bird watcher since the age of 10. And Mr Praveen P Mohandas, an architect by profession and a fine art nature photographer.
