According to you how can shows like DyeChem World benefit the Ludhiana industry?
This is the first time that an exclusive show for textile dyes and chemicals is taking place in Ludhiana. There are some expectations that the industry has from this show. Firstly, we want to see products that can help us achieve lower pollution levels, meet environmental norms. We want to see dyes and chemicals that are environment friendly, biobased products, natural dyes, etc. This is the main expectation from the show.

How big is the Ludhiana market for textile dyes and chemicals?
It’s a huge market. There are over 300 dyeing units in this city. And these units work with all fibre types – cotton, polyester, wool, acrylic, blends, etc. So, we have very specific and varied processing requirements. Most of the units are in the SME sector, so besides safe and green dyes and chemicals, there is also a big need to get high quality products at cost effective prices.

How environmentally sustainable is the textile dyeing industry in Ludhiana?
An environmentally unsustainable textile industry cannot survive anywhere in the world. And Ludhiana processors and textile manufacturers have been tirelessly and successfully working towards becoming sustainable. I would say that in the last 7-8 years especially, there have been huge changes in this sector in terms of energy conservation, reducing waste water, waste water recycling, etc.

What kind of investments are happening in the Ludhiana textile industry?
Huge investments are coming in today. Around 20-30 big processing units are in the pipeline. The processing sector here is very interested in mechanical finishing of textiles too, as this would reduce the pollution load significantly.
