Bharat Tex To Showcase India’s Competitiveness, Reliability, Strength and Diversity As A Sourcing Destination For Textile & Apparels Across Range Of Raw Materials

In a conversation with Textile Excellence, Mr Narendra Goenka, Chairman, Bharat Tex 2024 and AEPC spoke in detail about the activities during the show and AEPC’s plans to showcase Indian Textiles and Apparels. Here is the excerpt below:

 

What are the goals of AEPC would try to achieve from the Bharat Tex event?

AEPC aims to provide exclusive support to the Apparel industry of India for enhancing their Global reach through rigorous Market Intelligence, Global Compliance, Trade Facilitation and Policy Advocacy. It’s policy advocacy ranges from participating in Foreign Trade policy formulations of Government of India to representing Industry interests in ongoing global trade negotiations through various trade agreements. Bharat Tex will support the cause of AEPC’s endeavour by giving platform to RMG exporters from India a wide global reach, promote Brand India as a global Apparel sourcing hub, strengthen our ongoing FTA negotiations via participation and representations from textile Industry associations from FTA partner countries and strengthen new product development through participation from innovators, researchers, startups, CEOs and speakers across50+ knowledge sessions and master class during the event. G2G discussion forums and   demonstration of policy incentives to foreign delegation in totality would promote both trade and investments across the textile value chain

How AEPC is preparing to participate in the show and how many exhibitors would be exhibiting?

The endeavour of AEPC through the platform of Bharat Tex is to present India as a competitive and reliable apparel sourcing destination, showcasing our strength in terms of wide diversity of the textile and apparel offerings across range of raw material. Towards this objective AEPC has been working hard to mobilise relevant exhibitors from its PAN India based wide membership via conducting Road Shows across apparel clusters of Tirupur, Bangalore, Jaipur, NOIDA etc. and have been able to occupy an exhibition space of 14646sq meter with number of exhibitors reaching 600. Participation is from across its members with most of the prominent players of the garment industry. At the same time AEPC team with the support from the Ministry of Textiles have been promoting Bharat Tex across various export markets of Australia, UAE, Korea, Japan, Turkey, USA etc to invite large numbers of foreign buyers to the fair. In addition, ministry has also supported AEPC to reap in the support from Embassy of India offices across 35 countries through virtual mode thus ensuring Bharat Tex as a great business and networking opportunity to all the concerned stakeholders.

Can you please elaborate on the benefits of exhibiting in the show?

Considering global business developments, it becomes quint essential for Indian garment companies to look forward for market diversification to FTA countries and also emerging markets of GCC, LAC and CIS etc in current scenario. Bharat Tex which is supposedly attracting participation from 40+ countries as buyers including FTA countries would help AEPC members enhance their reach to new emerging export destinations.

Also considering growing competition on traditional product categories and shifting demands of global buyers from cotton to MMF based RMG, it is time for India to strengthen it’s cotton RMG exports on one hand and also make a plunge into MMF based exports. Towards this, Bharat Tex entails participation from fabric suppliers from countries including Korea and Taiwan etc which would give access to AEPC members to new MMF blends and assist them to diversify into new product categories including active wear, athleisure, sportswear, work wear etc.

Exhibitors will have ready access to knowledge sessions on emerging market trends. In addition, master classes during the show on new technology, research and innovation will extend an opportunity of experiential learnings to AEPC members. In totality, Bharat Tex is all about enhanced visibility, networking opportunities, and access to potential buyers. The event facilitates business growth by connecting exhibitors with a diverse, global audience.

How this mega event perceived to change the export scenario of Indian textile and apparels?

The mega event is anticipated to be a game-changer for Indian textile and apparel exports, opening avenues for increased market share, attracting foreign buyers, and contributing to the sector's overall economic growth. The event entails giving market access to newer countries, strengthen reach of Indian RMG in FTA countries, enhance diversification to new product categories ensure garment manufacturers get better awareness and access to newer technology enhancing production efficiency, research and innovation and in totality encourage both trade and investments across the textile value chain, fostering global partnerships, enhancing market visibility, and showcasing the industry's capabilities on an international stage would finally help industry to achieve the export target of 40USD by 2030.

How many buyers and from which countries, brands would they come?

Bharat Tex is attracting buyers, buying agents, industry associations from across 40+ countries with most of the prominent garment brands from USA, EU, Canada, Peru, Japan, Bolivia, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, UAE, GCC, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Turkey and many more; already confirmed their participation in the show.  AEPC expects a significant turnout of buyers from these countries and renowned brands, providing exhibitors with opportunities for fruitful collaborations and business expansion.

As an Export Promotion council, what other activities AEPC is planning during the show and in FY 2024?

AEPC has been instrumental in mobilising best of its senior industry members to showcase their latest collections giving enriching experience to the foreign buyers. In addition, appreciating the growing focus of the importing country on sustainability, AEPC has started its drive under the umbrella of AISA (Apparel Industry Sustainability Initiative) which aims at encouraging wider penetration of ESG measures amongst the MSMEs. Council is working towards enhancing the brand visibility of these sustainable companies during Bharat Tex. AEPC has also been instrumental in bringing global CEOs and CXOs of major apparel global brands for an enriching discussion during Bharat Tex towards strategizing trade and investments across textile value chain. We appreciate the fact that Bharat Tex is bringing in representation from foreign exhibitors of unique fabrics in MMF categories and thus would network with these global suppliers to ensure product diversification into MMF categories of active wear, sportswear, athleisure etc. as a part of its major drive as take away from Bharat Tex in 2024.
