A delegation of
Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) met Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj
Singh and shared the current scenario as well as the growth plans of the
industry. The delegation was led by ITTA Chairman Avinash Misar, along with
eminent industry leaders like Mohan Kavrie of Supreme Nonwovens, Narendra
Dalmia of Strata Geosystems, Mahesh Kudav of Venus Safety & Health, ITTA
Ex-Chairman Amit Agarwal and other ITTA members representing key segments of
the Technical Textiles.
Textile Minister
was updated about the current scenario of technical textile industry in the
country and discussed plans to grow the industry. The delegation
also apprised the minister on the current challenges of technical textile
sector and its potential solutions to overcome the challenges.
Industry leaders stressed on the needs of availability
of basic raw materials, mainly sspecialty fibers, yarns, polymers and chemicals which are
not produced in India but they are essential for manufacturing high-end
technical textiles. The QCOs imposed on all the variants of the Polyester
Staple & IDY yarns whereas many of the specialised variants are not
produced in India. The technical textile industry’s supply chain has crippled
due to QCO on such special varieties of raw materials. ITTA delegation has requested
to exclude these specialised variants from QCO notification and Textile
Minister has agreed to take up the matter with the Ministry of Chemicals &
Petrochemicals on this regard.
On the other hand, several high-tech
fibres, yarns like Nylon 6.6, Meta and Para Aramids, UHMPE, Mod-Acrylic, Flame Retardant,
certain grades of Glass, Carbon and metallic fibers on which there are no BIS
specifications are available. Therefore, there is no QCO applicable on them.
The technical textile industry wants to have the BIS specifications on the
fibers but needs no curb on imports of such specialty raw materials. The Textile Minister promised
to look into the matter and provide a solution moving forward.
To grow the consumption of technical
textiles in the country and thereby demand of the high tech products, the
meeting discussed about mandatory procurement, use of technical textiles by Central
and State Government departments, PSUs. The industry leaders felt that a monitoring
system at inter-ministerial level will help to implement such initiatives.
Further, to grow the exports of Indian technical textile
products, an idea of active brand promotion of Indian Technical textiles in all
major international and domestic events was also discussed.
The Minister
shared the vision of the Govt. for the future of technical textiles, support
through NTTM and PLI schemes, emphasizing the importance of integrating
emerging technologies with cost-effective strategies to ensure the growth of
the industry. The interaction between the Minister and the industry delegation
was to actively engage with the aim to find solutions to the crucial issues of
the industry and future growth.
