Arvind Limited, H&M Group and Deven Supercriticals
have jointly inaugurated India’s first commercial supercritical carbon dioxide
(CO₂) dyeing plant, marking a significant advance in sustainable textile
processing. The facility, located at Arvind’s Ahmedabad unit, utilises the
patented SUPRAUNO® technology to dye cotton, nylon, viscose and fabric blends
without water. The new method delivers about 76 % water savings, roughly 67 %
less energy use and close to 90 % reduction in chemical consumption compared to
conventional wet dyeing processes.
Special guests at the inauguration included Ms. Roop
Rashi Mahapatra, CEO of KVIC and former Textile Commissioner of India; Mr. Kim
Hellström, Senior Sustainability Manager at H&M; and Mr. Punit Lalbhai,
Vice Chairman of Arvind Limited. Founding delegate representation came from Dr.
Swapneshu Baser, founder of Deven Supercriticals, and Omang Narang, Production
Manager for India at H&M.
Arvind provided industrial scale deployment capacity and
operational support. Deven Supercriticals contributed innovation via its
SUPRAUNO® technology while H&M reinforced commitment under its global
sustainability roadmap. Industry observers believe this collaboration sets a
new benchmark for reducing environmental impact in dyeing and finishing
sectors. Adoption across clusters under environmental stress is expected.
Stakeholders urged training in machine operation protocols and chemical
handling to ensure safety and quality in large scale settings.
