The Lenzing Group, a global leader in regenerated
cellulosic fibres, launched its latest innovation, TENCEL™ Lyocell - HV100, a fibre
designed to mirror nature’s irregularities while maintaining sustainability and
performance. The new fibre debuted at Kingpins Amsterdam (October 15–16) and
marks a milestone in Lenzing’s mission to combine responsible production with
authentic natural aesthetics.
At the core of TENCEL™ Lyocell - HV100 is Variocut
technology, which allows for controlled variations in fibre length (10–28 mm)
within the bale. This intentional variation creates a distinctive, irregular
texture reminiscent of natural fibres like cotton or linen. The result is a
fabric that looks raw and organic, yet feels smooth and refined — a perfect
blend of performance and nature.
Crafting natural imperfections
The
new fibres retain the environmental advantages of LENZING™’s cellulosic
portfolio — including over 50% lower carbon emissions and water consumption
compared to generic lyocell — while adding a tactile, matte texture. The
irregularity in staple lengths enhances the fabric’s aesthetic depth, creating
subtle variations that mimic the appeal of handspun yarns. The result is a
natural softness without unwanted washdown effects or excessive drape, making
it ideal for premium denim and fashion applications where authentic texture is
key.
“TENCEL™ Lyocell - HV100 redefines what regenerated fibres
can achieve,” says Rohit Aggarwal, CEO of Lenzing Group. “As demand grows for
natural aesthetics and sustainable materials, HV100 bridges the gap between
performance and planet responsibility.”
Sustainability meets design versatility
The
fibre’s closed-loop production system ensures over 99.8% solvent recovery,
turning wood pulp from certified sustainable sources (FSC® and PEFC) into
biodegradable fibres. This process aligns with Lenzing’s “Naturally Positive”
sustainability strategy, driving a greener value chain while fostering
circularity across the textile industry.
According to Krishna Manda, Vice President of Corporate
Sustainability, “HV100 helps brands combine creative design freedom with
environmental responsibility. It offers the low-impact benefits of TENCEL™
Lyocell with the natural look today’s consumers love.”
Broad applications beyond denim
Early
trials show promising results in woven apparel and home textiles, with the fibre’s
flexibility allowing easy blending with cotton or standard TENCEL™ Lyocell.
Manufacturers can adjust blending ratios to achieve various textures—from
structured chinos to soft furnishings—while maintaining the fibre’s moisture
control, breathability, and biodegradability.
Florian Heubrandner, Vice President Global Business
Management Textiles, notes, “Controlled length variation gives mills creative
control never before possible with lyocell. It opens doors to new yarns and
fabrics that capture the spirit of natural fibres without sacrificing
performance.”
With TENCEL™ Lyocell - HV100, Lenzing continues to push
the boundaries of sustainable fibre innovation—empowering brands and
manufacturers to create products that combine eco-conscious production with
timeless, natural appeal.
