Government Clears 17 New PLI Applicants To Strengthen India’s MMF And Technical Textiles Growth Push

India’s textile manufacturing momentum received a major boost as the Ministry of Textiles approved 17 new applicants under Round 3 of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles. The move is expected to accelerate investment in the Man Made Fibre (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics and Technical Textiles sectors at a time when global demand is shifting toward high value performance materials.

The newly selected companies have committed a combined investment of ₹2,374 crore. Their proposed projects are projected to generate sales of over ₹12,893 crore in the coming years and create employment for nearly 22,646 people, giving a strong push to domestic capacity building and job creation in textile hubs across the country.

The PLI Scheme for Textiles was first notified in September 2021 with an approved outlay of ₹10,683 crore. It aims to help India scale up production in key MMF and Technical Textile categories where global import dependence is high and domestic potential remains underutilized. The scheme is designed to enable industry players to achieve global scale, increase value addition and strengthen India’s export competitiveness.

A total of 74 applicants had been approved under the first two rounds. The addition of 17 more applicants signals strong industry interest, supported further by the recent amendments introduced by the Ministry to widen participation. The application portal has been reopened and will remain active until December 31, 2025, offering companies another window to enter the scheme.

The Ministry noted that the PLI Scheme continues to serve as a key pillar in India’s textile growth strategy under Vision 2030, aiming to build a strong MMF ecosystem, modernize production, and enhance India’s position in the global technical textiles market.
