Additional Textile Commissioner Reviews WRA’s Advanced Research and Testing Capabilities

The Wool Research Association hosted Additional Textile Commissioner Shri Ajay Pandit for an in-depth review of its scientific programmes, testing infrastructure and industry focused initiatives. The visit highlighted WRA’s expanding role in strengthening India’s fibre innovation ecosystem at a time when demand for high performance and sustainable materials continues to rise across global markets.

Shri Pandit interacted with researchers across multiple divisions and examined ongoing work in wool science, speciality fibres, sustainable processing routes and performance textiles. WRA’s NABL accredited laboratory, equipped for 699 testing parameters, drew particular appreciation for its advanced analytical systems, including GC–MS/MS, thermal comfort measurement units and eco compliance testing capabilities. Officials noted that India’s textile testing and certification demand has grown more than 12% annually as exporters align with stricter global norms.

The review also covered WRA’s incubation facilities under COE SPORTECH, where startups and MSMEs receive guidance on product development, prototyping and technology transfer. Pilot scale spinning, dyeing, finishing, coating and laminating units allow industry partners to validate new materials and processes before commercialisation.

Shri Pandit encouraged the Association to deepen collaborations across the technical textiles sector and scale its R & D capabilities to support emerging growth segments such as sports tech, protective textiles and circular materials. WRA reaffirmed its commitment to advancing high quality research, sustainable innovation and industry-oriented skill development.
