India Deepens Silk And Textile Cooperation With Georgia In Push For Global Market Expansion

India has strengthened its textile and sericulture partnership with Georgia through a high-level engagement aimed at expanding trade, boosting research collaboration, and accelerating market access for value added silk and textile products. The visit, led by senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles and the Central Silk Board, marks an important step in advancing India’s global textile diplomacy under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

The delegation participated in the 11th BACSA International Conference in Georgia between November 17 and 21, highlighting India’s leadership in traditional silk knowledge and its relevance to creative and cultural industries. India showcased its innovation through the 5 in 1 Silk Stole, a premium product that integrates Mulberry, Oak Tasar, Tropical Tasar, Muga, and Eri silks. The product drew strong interest due to its market potential and representation of India’s rich silk heritage.

Indian experts also presented research papers on wild silk and Indo Bulgarian collaborations to develop a productive bivoltine silkworm hybrid for India. Discussions were held with Georgian universities, sericulture laboratories, research institutions, apparel companies, and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to identify new areas of cooperation.

Key outcomes include enhanced bilateral cooperation in silk research, diversification of textile trade, opportunities in high value silk products, and stronger institutional partnerships. The engagement reinforces India’s commitment to strengthening cross border partnerships and expanding the global presence of its textile and silk sectors.
